Scar treatments have advanced the way we look at scars on the skin. Years ago, there were few effective treatment options for unwanted scars. With advancements in laser and topical therapy, we now have a greater ability to modify scars and make them look more like our normal skin.
Dark scars can occur as a result of skin trauma. Depending on your skin color, you may be at risk for scar discoloration that is caused by a process known as post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation (PIH). PIH occurs due to an overstimulation of pigment within a scar. Most of the time, the discoloration is deeply embedded in the skin and is unlikely to resolve on its own.
Treatment for dark scars should begin as early as possible to avoid deposition of excess melanin within the wound. Once the melanin settles, it is very difficult to remove the pigmentation as it is sometimes embedded within the dermis of the skin.
Plastic surgeons recommend topical therapy as a first-line treatment option for dark scars that have begun the process of hyperpigmentation. Early in the healing phase of a scar, it is imperative that an appropriate skin pigmentation protocol is used.
Plato’s Scar Therapy Mini Kit contains Plato’s Dark Scar Corrector and Plato’s Scar Serum. Used together, the Scar Therapy Mini Kit can modulate excess scar formation and reduce the formation of dark scars. Early application is preferable once the skin has healed over a wound.
